Home Improvement Goals for 2015

2015 is a year full of new and exciting goals and possibilities. Whether your focus is cleaning the kitchen or going for a major project to replace shingle roofing, here are a few ideas to help you formulate some stellar home improvement goals for 2015:

Goal 1: Go natural with cleaners

Instead of spending money on expensive “designer” cleaners (whether organic or not), there are many simple homemade solutions that are extremely effective and eco-friendly.  Check out the following recipes:

Window Solution

1/4 c vinegar
2 c water

Spray onto windows and wipe away using a microfiber cloth for a streak-free window!

Coffee Maker Cleaner
(because we all intend to clean it out one of these days!)

1 c vinegar
1 c water

Pour into the water reservoir, then turn on brew cycle. After it is finished, run a few more cycles with clean water. This should eliminate any build-up in the inner workings of the coffee maker.

Bathroom Cleaner

To eliminate hard stains and buildup in your bathtub, sprinkle baking soda on the problem areas, then spritz with vinegar.  Let sit for 15 min, then scrub. (For particularly difficult stains, add lemon juice to the mixture.)

Goal 2: Discover/embrace trending colors

Home designs and color schemes come and go.  From looking at home decor magazines, it would appear every house should be white: white furniture, white floors, white walls, white EVERYTHING. (No offense if your house is all white. We congratulate you for being exceptionally clean!)

Truthfully, the secret to formulating a “trending color” is to find a balanced color scheme palette to work with. Here are some ideas for you to consider:

Earthy

Fun

Soothing

Goal 3: Improve the Exterior of Your Home – Replace Shingle Roofing?

Exterior home improvement varies vastly, depending on the age and current condition of your home. Check your windows, doors, landscaping, siding, and roofing for any necessary maintenance, repairs, or replacement. This year, many people in Savannah will make the decision to replace shingle roofing with a new material – metal.  Homeowners across the nation are realizing that metal roofing is eco-friendly, durable, and offers superior protection. In addition, these roofs require little or no maintenance.
