2 New Innovations in Roofing and How They Can Save You Money

Several innovations are offered in new roofing and insulating materials designed to offer better sun protection and energy savings while extending the life of your roof. Savannah roofing companies, including Tri County Roofing and Siding, offer innovative products that also improve your home’s value.

Two innovations are:

  • Solar reflective asphalt shingle materials
  • Blown-in insulation

Shingle materials

Tri-County Roofing and Siding offers the CertainTeed(r) solar reflective shingles and roofing membranes that save on energy during the hot summer months. Most roofs absorb heat that can increase the roof’s temperature to 150 degrees Fahrenheit during hot weather. The reflective shingles are designed to reduce at least 40% of the absorption of infrared (IR) rays from the sun, lowering the roof temperature.

The reflected heat is not absorbed into the home or residential building, which lowers the cost of using the air conditioning system. The energy savings is financial, as well, since your electric bill is lower. The extensive product line offers different styles and colors of shingles with Energy Star ratings that may qualify for tax credits.

The solar reflective shingles also add to the life of the roof. Intense sunlight, along with wind and rain, will eventually damage shingles. Reflective shingles and roofing membranes will last longer. This saves on repair and replacement costs.

Insulation

Modern blown-in insulation to your attic or crawl space adds to energy savings. This is also the most innovative means of insulating walls. The special fiberglass material absorbs both heat and cold. This adds to an average 20% savings on your HVAC energy costs throughout the year.

We use TrueComfort(r) blown-in insulation, another CertainTeed product. The fiberglass is non-toxic and free of odors. This is a non-combustible synthetic product that prevents the growth of mold, mildew and fungus.

Blown-in insulation is a job for roofing professionals. The amount of insulation required depends on the R-value or how much heat flow resistance you need. The Savannah and Charleston areas experience hot summers but generally mild winters. Our professional estimators will discuss your attic insulation needs based on the size of your home.
Tri County Roofing and Siding is proud to be a CertainTeed Select Shingle Master. We are also certified in GAF products, one of only a few Savannah roofing companies to enjoy this designation. Contact us for more information on energy-saving innovations for your home.
